Tres Piedras Community Center

Here in Tres Piedras, we have big ideas for the community. Here we will describe our vision for the community center and provide you with details as our dreams gain substance through the hard work and dedication of members of this community. It is important to remember that these are our ultimate goals and some ideas on this page may change. But no matter what minor changes you may find, you can be sure that our ultimate goal is to establish a community center in Tres Piedras.

One of our first priorities will be to acquire land for the community center. We are currently looking at the possiblity of acquiring some donated land across the street from the post office. This two acre parcel of land is just east of the highway and has a wide range of possiblities for the future of the community center.

Architect Fred Black, the owner of Big Sage Architects in Tres Piedras, has offered his services and expertise on a volunteer basis to help TPCE design and develop such a building. Although there are many proposed building structures that can be self-sustaining, we are primarily focused on an adobe building. During the construction of this building, we will follow LEED Certification Guidelines and we will evaluate the costs of achieving LEED Certification at a later date. Originally this building will feature a technological center with approximately 10 computer terminals and two laser jet printers. This technological center will provide the community with internet access and computer training for free or at a very low cost. It will also include a kitchenette, a small office, and one bathroom.

Although this may seem like a large project, it is actually only the beginning of goals for Tres Piedras Community Enhancement. Our long term goals include a public park, a recreational facility, a public library, an organic community greenhouse, a food co-op, health-care services, educational services, and more.
